The tow is run by a third party, and the carrier only learns what happened from what that third party reports. There is no verifiable record of its own for where the unit went or how long it took. Three costs live in that gap: operational fraud — route deviations, unauthorized shops, stripped parts, double-billed tows — SLA friction, because time is measured by the provider's word, and the policyholder left in the dark, calling the claims desk.

The adjuster attaches the device to the unit and scans its QR at the scene. It is bound to the claim number and the point of origin is locked in, independently of the tow operator.
During the tow, the beacon rides Apple's and Google's device networks to log real, verifiable checkpoints. No chip, no cable, no charging.
Every checkpoint is matched against the expected corridor between origin and assigned shop. A deviation, an unusual delay or a change of custody triggers an alert to the anti-fraud team.
When arrival at the authorized shop is confirmed, custody closes. A sealed record of route and timestamps is generated and pushed to the carrier's core.
Checkpoints are opportunistic: they depend on smartphones passing near the unit, so coverage means routes with vehicle traffic. The promise is not continuous tracking or a blue dot moving across a map — it is honest verification. On a stretch with no traffic, the record shows the gap instead of inventing a position.
